This Crochet Granny Rectangle Baby Blanket Pattern will be the project for you to learn the crochet granny rectangle baby blanket. You will use only one skein/cake of self-striping yarn while learning to make a rectangle granny square blanket. This pattern works up into a baby blanket that is perfect to cover up a newborn baby while they are snuggled into their car seat on a cold winter day, or to snuggle as they fall asleep.
The Baby Blue Blanket will teach you the Crochet Granny Rectangle technique which is a variation on the classic Granny Square. Here is the link to the YouTube tutorial if you need some help getting started: Learn to Crochet the Baby Blue Blanket.
This pattern/project is considered beginner friendly as it only contains 3 fundamental stitches – the chain, the single crochet and the double crochet stitches which makes it a perfect project to practice and reinforce the fundamental skills needed to become a great crocheter.
The Baby Blue Blanket only takes 1 skein of the Caron Yarnspiration cake and the final dimensions are 42″ lg X 32″ wide. I picked the self-striping yarn with colors that transition from white to various shades of blue and even a tan that creates the ombre transitions of colors as the stripes are created effortlessly. The yarn does all the ‘work’ so you won’t be changing any colors… you get to just keep crocheting and enjoy the rhythm of this classic stitch.
Below you will find the free pattern to create this baby blue blanket.
If you feel you need the help of a video tutorial, you will find the link to the YouTube demonstration video “Baby Blue Baby Blanket” at the end of this blog post.
